Early this week, Google announced that it will acquire social services company Meebo, famed for its cross-platform instant messaging app. Meebo has been around since 2005 and has since expanded to offer social toolbar service as an engagement tool for brands.

It is not immediately clear on what Google plans to do with the Meebo acquisition but it seems the internet search giant is looking to strengthen its social services and compete against the likes of Facebook. Google+ integration is inevitable.
No terms of deals were disclosed but it is believed the acquisition could cost close to US$100 million of spare change from Google’s deep pockets.
