HP, the world’s No.1 PC maker, has announced a multitouch, multitasking tablet PC with embedded security, targeted at mobile business users. The HP Slate 2 Tablet PC was unveiled at Asia Rise 2011 in Phuket, Thailand recently, a Microsoft Industry User Group event, where HP demonstrated the Microsoft Dynamics CRM cloud solutions for Automotive, Social CRM for Banking and Social CRM for Telecommunications all on the new tablet.

The HP Slate 2 Tablet PC features an 8.9-inch (1024 x 600 resolution) diagonal capacitive multitouch display for touch and pen input and includes an new Swype keyboard. Android device users will be familiar with Swype – the innovative input technology widely available for Android (and now iOS). The HP Slate 2 Tablet PC comes with a single-core 1.5Ghz Intel® Atom Z670 processor with mSATA SSM technology to deliver faster boot times, improved battery life of up to six hours. Storage options include SSD-based storage of up to 64GB.

Mobile uers will be chuffed to know that the Slate 2 comes with a front-facing VGA webcam for videoconferencing, and a 3MP rear camera still image and video capture. Audio enthusiasts will be glad that SRS Premium Sound comes as standard kit. The inclusion of a SD card slot allows for expanded storage and sharing capabilities. Two USB 2.0 ports and an HDMI port complete the expansion capabilities of the new Slate 2. WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 support comes as standard.

Additional hardware and software enhancements to the HP Slate 2 Tablet PC’s security and experience include:

  • A TPM Embedded Security Chip helps protects data – from email to information on the hard drive.
  • Embedded Security for HP ProtectTools provides user control and management of the TPM chip to increase secure user authentication, improved personal secure drive integrity, secure email and support protected digital certificate applications.
  • BIOS support for Computrace Pro(5) helps protect against data theft by allowing customers to remotely delete data at the file, directory or operating system level and keep confidential information more secure.
  • HP Connection Manager offers easy control over wireless connections, including Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth® and optional integrated 3G Mobile Broadband(6) for convenient internet and intranet access from more places around the world.

Users have a selection of Windows flavours to choose from – Windows 7 Professional (32-bit), Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit) or Windows Embedded Standard 7.
