It’s official! The new Motorola RAZR was announced yesterday for the Malaysian market, and it certainly lives up to its predecessor’s name. This phone is THIN! Officially tagged as “Impossibly Thin”, which we agree, the RAZR slices in at only 7.1mm thick – that’s 16% thinner than the Galaxy S II (8.49mm) and 19% thinner than the iPad 2 (8.8mm).

Thin doesn’t necessarily mean weak though – the RAZR boasts a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB DDR2 RAM, loaded with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread (upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich when it’s available). Also, it has an 8MP rear camera with LED flash, as well as a 1.3MP front-facing camera for webcam junkies. It’s powered by a non-removable 1780mAh battery, which should provide enough juice to run most of the day. We’ll update on this when we get a unit for review.

The RAZR doesn’t disappoint in display too – it uses the latest Advanced Super-AMOLED qHD display – 960×540 resolution on a 4.3? screen. That’s very close to the iPhone 4?s Retina Display of 960×640 pixels, and even beats the Galaxy S II’s S-AMOLED of 800×480.

But here’s the kicker that no other phone has – the Motorola RAZR is laced with KEVLAR FIBRE on the back of the phone. Yes, the same material used to make bulletproof vests. This does not mean that the phone is bulletproof, however it’s 5x lighter than stainless steel with the same tensile strength though – which of course contributes to it’s light weight of only 127g. The iPhone 4S weighs in at 140g, and the Galaxy S II at 116g.

The phone will be distributed by Brightstar (www.brightstarcorp.com.my/razr) and should arrive in stores by 11.11.11.
