Founded in Chicago in November 2008, Groupon has been noted by Forbes to be the fastest growing internet company in history. Currently present in over 45 countries and 500 markets worldwide, Groupon serves over 83 million subscribers. Groupon acquired GroupsMore in early 2011 as part of its expansion program.

PRESS STATEMENT

Statement by Groupon Malaysia regarding report by comScore Inc and Dealmates.

Dear Editor,

Groupon Malaysia would like to clarify that the information provided in an article titled “Dealmates overtakes Groupon” published on the 17th of November 2011 by a local newspaper is untrue.

According to the report, it is stated that “Dealmates has overtaken Groupon in terms of Website traffic in Malaysia, receiving about 247,000 visitors for September”. However, Groupon Malaysia would like to clarify that a Google Analytics check will reveal that Groupon Malaysia’s website traffic for the month of September amounted to a total of 1,664,911 unique visitors, indicating that Groupon Malaysia clearly remains to receive a dominant amount of website traffic in comparison to Dealmates.

We would also like to reaffirm that with over 950,000 direct subscribers signing up with Groupon Malaysia since our launch in February 2011, Groupon continues to be the fastest growing as well as dominant market share leader in the Malaysian group buying industry.

While Groupon Malaysia is pleased that group buying continues to grow from strength to strength in Malaysia and has brought tremendous benefits to both customers and merchants alike, we regret that there are parties within the industry who have deliberately sought to misrepresent the facts and hope that our statement will provide greater clarity regarding Malaysia’s vibrant group buying industry to you as well as your readers.

Please feel free to contact us should you require any further clarification.

Kind regards,

Joel Neoh,
Chief Executive Officer of Groupon Malaysia
