Samsung unraveled its new line of Series 9 Notebooks and top-of-the-line monitors at Plaza Low Yat, at the launch of its IT Solutions Roadshow. The products were first seen at 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this year, and Malaysia, proudly, is the first country to preview these products ahead of other Asian and European markets.
Managing Director of Samsung Malaysia Electronics Sdn Bhd, Mr Yui Jai Sui officiated the launch. The event, graced by the media and bloggers, included product demos of the Series 9 notebook and 3D LED and central station monitors. The ultra-light Series 9 is currently one of the thinnest and lightest notebooks in the world, even kicking Apple’s MacBook Air off the pedestal, for now. The Series 9 impressively tips the scales at only 1.31kg and measures only 16.3mm in depth, all while offering a screen size of 13 inches. With a form factor that was inspired by a folded piece of paper, the notebook is powered by the 2nd generation Intel Core i5 processor with up to 4GB memory.
Utilising Intel’s Intelligent Turbo Boost, users can allocate processing power where it’s needed most. How this works is unclear, so stay tuned for a detailed hands-on review soon! Samsung’s renowned for its display technology, and its prowess is clearly displayed (pun intended) in its vivid ‘SuperBright Plus’ display (400nit) with 16 million colors. Regular notebooks generally offer brightness ratings of 200-280nits. The Series 9 comes bundled with Microsoft Windows 7 and 1-year international warranty. It is priced at RM4,999. Samsung’s Central Station monitors were designed for both professionals and consumers, offering twin USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 connections and HDMI input. The 1080 LED backlit display comes with an auto configuration function, letting users quickly set up and go. Its impressive specs and performance is topped off with an even more impressive price – RM1,299 for 23-inch. Nice. Definitely something I’m thinking of getting for the office.
The world has undeniably gone 3D, and Samsung showed its seriousness in bringing the 3D experience to the home. Unveiled were The 7 and 9 Series 3D LED monitors with LED-backlit technology. The monitors offer 3D conversion of 2D content on-the-fly, which is the very innovative indeed. Prices start from RM1,299 for the 21-inch and comes with a pair of 3D glasses.
Attendees were treated to a very entertaining flash mob, with kids as young as 9-years old dancing to the latest hits. If any of you follow 8TV’s Showdown, you’ll recognise lead dancer of Showdown 2010 winners, Wakaka, leading the flash mob. Very nice!
