Back from the Oil Town

Boy, has Miri changed. Not in a super-drastic sense. No 44-storey skyscraper to replace the Pelita Tunku. But it has changed nonetheless. In a very positive way. There are many more commercial projects and the little city’s beautification efforts have paid off handsomely. The Esplanade looks very good. The Petronas Oil Museum certainly raises the cosmetics of Canada Hill by heaps.

It was a short but eventful trip. Spent the first 2 days walking and travelling a lot, just to absorb the new Miri. One I have not seen for 7 years. It was also super to see and spend time with old friends and also my brother Brandon, who works there. I got a good deal at Park City Everly Hotel, formerly Holiday Inn and my room was with an awesome view of the sea, right smack in the middle of the hotel. With all my running around, I spent very little time at the hotel, though.

I’d love to return soon. This short trip has rekindled my love for Sarawak, and especially beloved Miri. Will see you soon, my Sarawak friends!

Catch some pics I took from the trip.
