When you remote start a car, bad things happen.

Remote start.

Bad.

Bad, bad, bad.

Call it a feature. I’d like to call it – Tool of Destruction. Like many before today, the remote start feature bundled with some car alarm systems, has caused collateral damage.

My race partner Stan had just called me to inform me that my car, who has been with him since last week (for the R3TAC 2dot6 autocross in Danga Bay which I missed), has slammed into a wall. Stan, apparently remote started the car to ‘warm it up’ while he took the trash out. He then, realised of course, that he had parked it in gear, hence the loud ‘crash’.

Swell.

I am completely speechless. For one, I almost never use the feature due to Captor remote which has a very short range, therefore rendering the remote start feature useless. And number two, I NEVER park the car in gear. That’s so bloody last century.

Needless to say, I’m pretty darn pissed. Sigh.

Vernon, it’s time to change your nickname from “Crash” to something else lah. Why did u choose such negative nickname in the first place lah?

#4 on 04.26.06 at 12:44 am

why he park in gear at the first place?

Crash was a nickname I adopted long before I got involved in motorsports.

Funny thing about my car is that it gets hurt when its stationery, or when I’m not with it, or driving it.

Almost all funny incidents including crashes, scratches and bumps occurred when I was not around.

I mean, I’ve been to many, many autocrosses and except that once when I ran of Turn 7 and 8 at Sepang circuit, it has never *touch wood* crashed in any way, not at 40km/h, not at 220km/h.

Why do people park in gear? I don’t bloody know. It’s the 21st century. Handbrakes actually work. And things like this they thought us in defensive driving class to ‘not’ do. Things like this get people killed or seriously hurt.

Bleh.

Yeah, it’s all healed now, except the mysterious broken number plate. Have put it all behind, wasn’t that bad in the first place.

I just realised how much I actually missed the car when I drove it after more than a week.

I am reunited with my baby, once again. Absolute bliss! Did I hear Sepang calling?

Everything is fine now. Ankle is recovering though I won’t see any ball action for the next 2 weeks at least.
